When you hear the term Paper IBC, you may imagine a conventional cardboard box. But a Paper IBC designed for bulk liquid transportation is much more than ordinary packaging.

A Paper IBC combines a high-strength structural body, a durable liquid-contact liner, and carefully engineered reinforcement technologies to support the handling and transportation of bulk liquids. Its paper-based construction is designed not only for space-saving storage and efficient logistics, but also for structural stability and transport performance.

So, can a Paper IBC made of paper really handle bulk liquid transportation?

The answer lies in what is inside the structure, how the structure is designed, and how the finished packaging performs under testing.

What’s Inside the Structure?

The performance of LAF Paper IBC starts with its structural materials and manufacturing process.

● High-Strength Corrugated Paper

Our Paper IBC uses high-strength corrugated paper to create a robust outer structure. The corrugated construction provides the box with the support needed to hold the liner and protect the liquid cargo during handling, stacking, and transportation.

Unlike ordinary paper packaging, the structure is developed specifically for the demands of bulk liquid logistics.

One-Piece Integrated Molding

Our one-piece integrated molding process helps create a more consistent and stable box structure. By reducing unnecessary joints and improving structural continuity, the design supports the overall integrity of the Paper IBC.

The result is a packaging body engineered for bulk liquid applications—not simply a box adapted for liquid transportation.

●  Durable IBC Liner

The liner is the component that directly contains the liquid cargo. It works together with the outer paper structure to form a complete Paper IBC system. Depending on cargo characteristics and application requirements, different liner materials and constructions may be selected. The liner provides the liquid-contact barrier, while the outer box provides structural support and protection.

This combination allows the Paper IBC to bring together the advantages of a flexible liner and a reinforced outer structure.

PAPER IBCs

Easy-Form Process: More Even Stress Distribution

A packaging structure may be strong, but how it distributes stress is equally important.

Traditional four-corner structures can experience stress concentration in certain areas, particularly around corners and connection points. When forces are not distributed evenly, localized stress can affect the overall structural performance.

To address this challenge, we developed the Easy-Form Process.

From Stress Concentration to More Even Stress Distribution

The Easy-Form Process is designed to help distribute stress more evenly throughout the Paper IBC structure.

Instead of allowing excessive force to concentrate in specific areas, the structure is shaped to support a more balanced distribution of stress. This helps improve the stability and durability of the packaging during handling and transportation.

The Easy-Form Process contributes to a more reliable structural design by focusing not only on material strength, but also on how the entire structure responds to external forces.

Steel-Like Technology: Reinforcing Structural Integrity

Another important part of our Paper IBC design is Steel-Like Technology.

This technology combines two key structural concepts:

  • Bionic laminated structure

  • Cross-layer stacking

Bionic Laminated Structure

The bionic laminated structure takes inspiration from the way natural structures combine different layers to achieve strength and stability. By arranging multiple layers in a coordinated structure, the Paper IBC can achieve improved structural integrity compared with a basic single-layer paper construction.

Cross-Layer Stacking

Cross-layer stacking helps reinforce the structure in different directions. This supports a more balanced response to external forces and contributes to the overall stability of the box body.

Together, the bionic laminated structure and cross-layer stacking form the basis of our Steel-Like Technology. The objective is clear: to create a paper-based structure with the strength, stability, and integrity required for bulk liquid transportation.

Tested for Transport Performance

A strong design must also be evaluated under practical transport conditions. LAF Paper IBC undergoes a series of tests (ISTA 3E) covering different types of mechanical stress and movement. The testing program includes the following key evaluations.

Rotational Edge Drop Test

The Rotational Edge Drop Test evaluates the response of the packaging when it is subjected to a drop impact involving its edges.

This type of test helps assess the structural performance of the Paper IBC under sudden impact conditions that may occur during handling.

Inclined Impact Test

The Inclined Impact Test evaluates the packaging’s ability to withstand impact forces generated by movement along an inclined surface.

The test speed is: 42 in/sec ≈ 1.1 m/s

This test helps examine how the Paper IBC responds to impact and movement during transportation-related handling conditions.

Compression Test

The Compression Test evaluates the ability of the Paper IBC to withstand vertical loading and stacking pressure.

Our testing includes:

Safety Factor: 3

Actual 4-layer stacking test

These evaluations help assess the structural performance of the Paper IBC when multiple units are stacked during storage or transportation.

Random Vibration Test

Transportation can expose packaging to continuous vibration over extended periods. The Random Vibration Test evaluates how the Paper IBC responds to this type of repeated mechanical movement.

Our testing includes: 4 hours of continuous vibration

This helps assess the stability and durability of the packaging under vibration conditions associated with transportation.

PAPER IBCs

Paper-Based Doesn’t Mean Fragile

A Paper IBC should not be judged by the material name alone.

Its performance depends on the complete engineering system—including the paper structure, liner, forming process, reinforcement technology, and transport testing.

With high-strength materials, Easy-Form Process, Steel-Like Technology, and transport-oriented testing, our Paper IBC is designed to offer more than a lightweight packaging alternative.

It is a structured bulk liquid packaging solution developed to support real logistics requirements.
