Choose the packaging around the cargo.
Plan the configuration around the route.
LAF RailFlex™ provides railway flexitank options for compatible non-hazardous bulk liquids. Explore configurations for conventional rail routes, cold-climate corridors and 40ft container applications, and share your shipment requirements for product selection and quotation.
Start with the operating environment and the container application. Pro, Arctic and Max address different selection needs; share the cargo and rail itinerary before finalizing the configuration.
For conventional railway transport and selected cross-border routes with more moderate climate conditions.
For cold-region and winter railway applications where the packaging material must be assessed against low-temperature exposure.
For applicable low-density liquid shipments in 40ft containers, with selection based on cargo density and the permitted loading arrangement.
A flexitank for rail transport needs to be considered as part of the full journey. The route, terminal operations and any road or sea legs belong in the same operating brief.
Include the expected transit duration and rail legs. Repeated movement is a different requirement from a single handling event.
Identify shunting, braking and terminal handling conditions. Discuss the installation and protection arrangement with the packaging supplier.
Give the shipping month and expected ambient extremes, as well as the liquid’s loading and discharge temperature needs.
Describe road, rail and ocean transfers, including responsibility for fitting, loading checks and destination discharge.
Rail flexitanks can be considered for selected non-hazardous food liquids, industrial oils and chemical liquids. Product names alone do not establish suitability: the formulation and operating conditions need to be part of the review.
Examples include edible oils, wine and juice concentrates. Discuss food-contact documentation, cargo cleanliness and any product-specific barrier or temperature requirements.
EDIBLE OILS / WINE / JUICE CONCENTRATESExamples include lubricants and base oils. Provide density and viscosity, including how they change at the planned loading and discharge temperatures.
LUBRICANTS / BASE OILSProvide the SDS and formulation details needed for compatibility assessment. Review the complete cargo specification, valve connection and handling requirements.
SDS AND COMPATIBILITY REVIEWA quotation becomes more useful when the cargo, container and route are defined together. Provide the following inputs so that the recommended railway flexitank and supply scope match the intended shipment.
| Selection factor | Information to provide | What the review addresses |
|---|---|---|
| Cargo properties | Liquid name, density, viscosity and specification; SDS for chemical cargo | Compatibility with the liquid-contact materials and intended use |
| Planned loading quantity | Volume or weight per container, including units | Density, available payload and the proposed filling arrangement |
| Container type | Size, internal condition and available container details | The suitable configuration, fitting and protection plan |
| Route, season & duration | Origin, destination, shipping month, planned transit time and transfer points | Temperature exposure, transport duration and handling conditions |
| Loading & discharge | Liquid temperature, pump arrangement and hose/valve connections | Operating procedures and connection requirements |
| Railway acceptance | Proposed operator, corridor and any specified documents | The product configuration and documentation needed for that route |
For a 40ft application: start with cargo density and planned loading weight. Container size alone does not define the allowable liquid load.

Material response to repeated flexing.
Film behavior under tensile loading.
Material response to a defined impact.
Measurement of the film specimen.

LAF’s service offering includes product selection, fitting guidance and loading or discharge assistance. Define the support required at origin and destination alongside the product configuration and route.
Share the cargo, route, season and container application. Identify the documents and technical questions that need to be resolved.
Confirm the RailFlex series and proposed configuration against cargo compatibility, route conditions and container requirements.
Agree on loading conditions, connections, operating instructions and the checks to be recorded before dispatch.
Confirm destination equipment, discharge conditions and the service contacts needed along the logistics chain.
For a multi-leg shipment, identify who coordinates each stage and what support is required. Request the fitting and operating information for the supplied system.
Explore LAF Services ↗Pro is the starting point for conventional routes with more moderate climate conditions; Arctic addresses cold-climate packaging requirements; Max focuses on applicable 40ft container shipments. Share the cargo, itinerary and temperature conditions to discuss the suitable series and configuration.
Arctic addresses the packaging material requirements of cold-weather rail routes. Cold resistance is different from cargo insulation or heating. Provide the liquid’s minimum handling temperature and any temperature-control needs alongside the expected ambient conditions.
RailFlex Max is developed for applicable 40ft container use, particularly for low-density liquids. The loading plan still needs to account for density, container payload, the proposed configuration and the restrictions of the intended route.
Selected edible oils, wine, juice concentrates, industrial oils and non-hazardous chemical liquids may be considered. Supply the specification and, for chemical cargo, the SDS so that compatibility and operating conditions can be assessed.
Start with the liquid density and planned volume or weight per container. The supplied flexitank configuration, container payload, route restrictions and operating conditions all need to be reviewed together. A container size alone does not establish an allowable liquid load.
Provide the cargo name, density, planned volume or weight per container, origin and destination, container type, shipping season and quantity required. Include temperature needs, handling details and any documentation requested by the railway operator.
Tell us about your liquid cargo, transport route and loading requirements. Our team can recommend a suitable RailFlex configuration and provide a quotation for your shipment.
